Real Madrid have confirmed that they are considering signing former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.

Keane, who left Manchester United last month after 12 years at the club, will be available to play for a new club in January. Although he has been linked with a number of English clubs as well as Scottish league lesders Celtic, the former Republic of Ireland international may be tempted by one final flourish in Spain.

“Roy Keane is on the list of possible signings that the club is discussing at the moment,” Real Madrid director of communications Antonio Garcia Ferreras said on Monday.

“But nothing has been decided as yet.

Ferreras denied weekend reports claiming that Keane had already passed his medical.

“Contrary to reports in the press the player has not passed a medical with Real nor will he do so in the next couple of days,” he added.

“What is true is that the player was offered to the club around a month ago and because of his characteristics he is the sort of player that interests the technical staff.

“They are going to sit down in seven or eight days and decide on who, if anyone, the club will sign when the transfer window opens.”
