With the flare of Brazil, World Cup holders Italy and the number one ranked side on the globe Spain in attendance, the Confederations Cup is a must-see tournament – Starts 14th June

Former Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro does not believe that the club’s recent big money signing of Kaka and the world record breaking bid for Cristiano Ronaldo will transform the Spanish outfit into a team of winners.

Cannavaro spent three years at the Bernabeu, winning back-to-back La Liga titles, but last season Real played trailed in second behind arch-rivals Barcelona who won a historic treble of the league title, Champions League and Copa del Rey.

Italy international Cannavaro, who has returned home to play for Juventus, said there are “internal problems” which will not be solved purely by throwing money around.

“The club is going to have to do more because these players will not solve the internal problems,” said Cannavaro. “The most important thing for the team is to achieve a group mentality.

“They are incredible figures, astronomical ones, especially in a world crisis as we are experiencing now. But those figures reflect the club culture of always being accustomed to being the best.”

Cannavaro expects Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s shopping spree to continue.

“I think Madrid need five signings,” he said. “Most of them in attack, as that is Real Madrid’s playing mentality.”
