Real Madrid boss Wanderley Luxemburgo has stated that he is likely to block any move from Liverpool for Fernando Morientes.

The striker has become disillusioned with his lack of first team action at the Santiago Bernabeu and is believed to favour a move to Liverpool.

However, a switch now looks increasingly unlikely as Luxemburgo wants Morientes to stay.

“I don’t like reinforcing the rivals,” he stated.

“Morientes joining Liverpool will be like helping an enemy.

“I want to speak with Morientes, to know what he is thinking.

“Later I will meet the club and we will decide.”

Morientes has been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation in recent weeks, with Monaco, the club he spent last season loan with, also reported to be keen to secure his services.

The Spanish international has been a peripheral at Real since the arrival of Michael Owen from Liverpool relegated him to fourth place in the pecking order.
