Real Zaragoza have been fined nearly €9000 by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following the racist abuse of Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o by supporters.

The RFEF handed Real Zaragoza the fine after Zaragoza supporters directed monkey sounds at Eto’o in Barcelona’s 2-0 victory.

Eto’o, who also had been a victim of racists taunts last season at Zaragoza’s La Romareda stadium, was set to walk off the pitch in response to the abuse, before he was persuaded by the referee and his teammates to continue.

Real Zaragoza have 10 days to appeal the fine.
