Alvaro Recoba will be fit to face Denmark in Uruguay’s World Cup opener on Saturday.

The South American forward injured his left knee during training but the problem is not serious and he is recovering well.

However, midfielder Fabian O’Neill will definitely miss out and may not meet France in his team’s second game,on 6 June.

“O’Neill’s problem is tendonitis. He had a magnetic resonance test on his ankle and is not fit to play,” said a spokesman. Roma’s Gianni Guigou is likely to replace him.
