Dragan Dzajic has resigned as director of Red Star Belgrade after the team were knocked out of the UEFA Cup.

“I assume responsibility for the latest failure in the UEFA Cup,” Dzajic said.

“Red Star is a club that is too big for my departure to stand in the way of their long-term goals.”

Red Star were knocked out of the UEFA Cup after two losses to Zenit St Petersburg, who advanced to the second round 6-1 on aggregate. Fans rioted after the game demanding the Serbian football legend step down from his role.
