Arsenal striker Jose Antonio Reyes has been charged with violent conduct during Saturday’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Sheffield United.

Although Arsenal striker Dennis Bergkamp was sent off for pushing United’s Danny Cullip, television replays showed it may have been Reyes that was involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, Arseanl have already lodged an appeal against Bergkamp’s red card.

“We think he didn’t hit the player,” said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

“He raised the arm, that’s true. Taken to the letter of the law maybe he will be suspended but, if you use common sense, he will not be suspended.

“We will accept what they do. He should not have done it at all but we have seen this kind of reaction before without a player being suspended for three games.”

“Because he was captain maybe he felt he had to protect the young players and he had that reaction.”
