Norwegian international John Arne Riise has expressed his delight at signing a new, improved contract that will keep him at Liverpool until 2007.

“I am so happy to have signed,” said Riise.

“Liverpool are a great club and they are striving to be the best in the business.”

Riise was the subject of transfer speculation earlier in the year with Real Madrid reported to be interested in signing him. However, the 21-year-old full-back has confirmed that he has no intention of quitting Anfield.

“There is no way I am thinking about moving or anything like that,” he said.

“I am happy at Liverpool and all I know is that there are plenty of years to come when I will be playing for Liverpool.

“In Norway, there are only two English clubs that matter. They are Liverpool and Manchester United. I am now playing for one of them and for me that is great. As soon as I arrived at Liverpool’s training ground on my first day, I thought: ‘This is the place for me’.”
