Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo will be out of action for two weeks with a hamstring injury, the Spanish club have confirmed.

Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in Thursday night’s 7-0 thrashing of Malaga but limped off the Bernabeu pitch in the 77th minute.

The Portuguese international, who is joint top scorer in La Liga with 27 goals, had a scan on Friday morning, which confirmed he would require a 10-15 day lay-off.

An ever-present in the league this season, Ronaldo now looks set to miss Sunday’s game with Racing Santander and the subsequent meeting with Hercules, as well being doubtful for the second leg of Madrid’s Champions League tie with Lyon, which is currently level at 1-1.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “Cristiano Ronaldo has a Grade 1 muscle injury on the left biceps femoris muscle (hamstring). The player will miss 10-15 days. His recovery is being monitored.”
