Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano believes Cristiano Ronaldo is nervous about proving he is worth the £80million the Spanish club paid for him during the summer.
The former Manchester United man moved to the Bernabeu in a world record move, but has had a fairly quiet start to his career in Spain so far.
The Portuguese attacker scored from the penalty spot in Madrid’s 3-2 win over Deportivo on the first day of the season, but he also squandered several good chances.
However, an unconcerned Valdano told RNE: “I liked Cristiano in the first league game. He scored, even if it was from the penalty spot, and he had a couple of good moves.
“Maybe he is somewhat nervous because he is a very good professional and he always tries to be the best, but you have to wait a couple of games and then you will see who he is.
“He needs a bit of time to adapt, like what happened when Zidane moved here.”
