Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo hopes arch-rivals Barcelona lose their Champions League semi-final against Inter on Wednesday night.

Barcelona trail 3-1 from the away leg at the San Siro but still entertain hopes of reaching the final at Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium.

“It will be an incredible game,” Ronaldo told Cadena Cope. “It’s very difficult to know who I want to win, although I would prefer Barca to lose and be eliminated.

“I am from Real Madrid and I like my club and if Barcelona crash out of Europe it would be something that could affect them in the league and which we could take advantage of.”

Ronaldo has scored 20 goals in 25 games in La Liga but Real still trail defending champions Barcelona by one point at the top of the table.

Ronaldo said: “It would be a bad year if we don’t win the league because a club like this has to always win something every year. But I am confident we can win the league.”
