Wayne Rooney has been declared fit to play again after a scan on his foot came back all-clear and he was able to take part in training on Friday.

However, despite the news, Rooney is unlikely to make his debut for Manchester United in tomorrow’s Premiership clash with Tottenham.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had previously suggested that the 3 October game against Middlesbrough was a more likely date for Rooney’s debut.

“Wayne is available to play, what we have to assess is when we play him” said Ferguson.

“Fitness comes into it, but he’s been competitive in training and we are very pleased with him.”
