Arsenal are the new Carling Cup favourites after Man United were thrashed 4-0 by West Ham:

Santos says it has acquired midfielder Elano from Turkish club Galatasaray.

The 29-year-old Elano will be returning to the Brazilian club after five years in European football with Shakhtar Donetsk, Manchester City and Galatasaray.

“Galatasaray have agreed to transfer to FC Santos Elano Blumer, as agreed upon at a price of €2.9 million,” a statement on the Turkish club’s official website read. “The club has been grateful for Elano’s services to Galatasaray and we wish him continued success in his footballing career.”

Elano has previously told the Globoesporte newspaper that he wanted to return to his former club, for whom he won two national championships.

“I have a great desire to return home. It is logical that Santos is the club in which I feel most comfortable,” the midfielder said a few weeks ago.

Santos says Elano will be officially introduced to fans on Sunday before the team’s final Brazilian league match, against Flamengo.
