Germany midfielder Bernd Schneider faces a race against time to be fit for this summer’s Euro 2008 tournament after undergoing back surgery.
The 34-year-old was operated upon last week to repair a slipped disc, but is hopeful of being fit in time for this summer’s European Championships which start in June 7 in Austria & Switzerland.
“The operation went well and I feel pretty good considering the circumstances,” Schneider told the Frankfurter Allgemeine.
“The healing process is pretty quick, I am told, and I am hopeful of being fit in time.”
Schneider had struggled with a knee injury this season before his latest setback, but the operation was vital according to the German Football Federation (DFB).
