SFA chief executive David Taylor confirmed that a shortlist of candidates had been drawn up for the vacant Scotiish manager’s position.

The search for a new manager began when Walter Smith’s decided to take over at Rangers.

“We have discussed the matter of the new Scotland coach and we have agreed to draw up a shortlist and that’s what we have done,” Taylor told Sky Sports News.

“We have agreed a process for discussing with the candidates the suitability of the job.

“It is a short list, that’s all I am prepared to say,” he added. “I would not like to encourage any further speculation.

“I can confirm that (they are all Scottish).

“We want to get this matter settled as quickly as possible. We do have matches and gatherings coming up. But we have to get the right manager and that is more important than speed.

“We will get the process underway and hopefully in the not too distant future we will be in the position to announce the name of the new manager.”
