Scotland have suffered a triple injury blow ahead of their Euro 2004 qualifier against the Faroe Islands with Dominic Matteo, Scot Gemmill and Derek McInnes all ruled out.

Leeds skipper Matteo has been struggling with anankle knock, whilst the West Brom star has failed to recover from a knee injury. Gemmill meanwhile was hoping to prove his fitness in a reserve game for Everton but the midfielder was told that he had not played sufficient football this season to merit inclusion.

Assistant coach Tommy Burns said: “Dominic tried to train but there was no point in including him for such a big game if he wasn’t fit.

‘Derek showed great enthusiasm when he joined the squad and it’s just been unfortunate that he can’t train either.”
