Angry Sevilla fans have hit out at the club’s decision to sell star man Jose Antonio Reyes to English Premiership leaders Arsenal.

The group of supporters called ‘Los Biris’ expressed their disappointment at the departure of Reyes ahead of Sevilla’s centenary next season.

A statement on their website read: “They have sold the jewel in the crown, the leader we were promised for the centenary. No to football business.”

Club president Jose Maria del Nido defended his decision, claiming Arsenal made an offer they could not refuse.

“We had to accept it, to not have done would have been very irresponsible,” said del Nido.

“It is a bittersweet day for Sevilla Football Club, bitter because we are losing one of our stars with real sadness, but sweet because it will allow us to overcome our financial problems.”

“Yes it was an exorbitant offer, yes it was more than the market price and yes it shook the Sanchez Pizjuan to its foundations.

“The offer met all of these requisites.”
