Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre will miss the rest of the season after suffering a dislocated shoulder.

The 29-year-old was carried off in United’s Champions League win over Lille last Wednesday.

A United spokesman revealed: “Mikael’s shoulder required surgery. He will be back training in three months.”

Silvestre joins Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Darren Fletcher and Louis Saha on the sidelines while Henrik Larsson has now left the club folloiwng the completion of his loan spell.

Saha has been ruled out for at least a month with a hamstring injury while Solskjaer is recovering from knee surgery and Fletcher is likely to miss the rest of the season with an ankle problem.

The growing injury list is a concern for Sir Alex Ferguson, whose side are still competing for three trophies.
