Swiss club Sion have fired Bernard Challandes and appointed Laurent Roussey as their new coach.

Roussey becomes Sion’s 22nd coach in six seasons after Challandes, who had been in charge for nine months, was fired following a 1-0 defeat to league leader FC Basel on Sunday. The loss eft the club in fifth place, trailing by 11 points.

Challandes guided FC Zurich into the group stage of the Champions League last season, where they recorded a win at Milan.

Sion say they have appointed Roussey until the end of the season. The Frenchman coached Sion nine seasons ago and led Saint-Etienne to a fifth-place finish in the French league in 2008.
