Inter playmaker Wesley Sneijder says anemia caused him to pass out at half-time of Saturday’s match with Brescia.
Having helped guide Inter to a treble last season and then Holland to the World Cup final, Sneijder says he is simply exhausted.
Sneijder told De Telegraaf that he “started to shake and felt pain in my entire body,” and that after a medical visit in his homeland “the conclusion was that I have anemia and my whole body is exhausted.”
Inter’s press office had no comment, although Sneijder was omitted from the squad for Wednesday’s match in Lecce.
Sneijder is one of the leading candidates for the 2010 FIFA Ballon d’Or world player of the year award, which will be announced January 10.
