Real Sociedad have appointed former Espanyol and Celta Vigo boss Miguel Angel Lotina as ther new coach.
Lotina replaces Jose Mari Bakero who was sacked following the club’s dismal start to the season.
Sociedad said that the new man had signed a contract until the end of the season with an option to extend the deal for a further year.
“I’ve come here with tremendous enthusiasm,” Lotina told a news conference on Friday.
“I know we can take this thing forward. Real Sociedad deserve to stay in the first division and I’m convinced we will achieve that aim.
“We have got the time to turn things around.”
Bakero was sacked on Thursday, a day after the team lost 4-1 to second division Malaga in the first leg of the King’s Cup.
Lotina guided Numancia and Osasuna to promotion to the Primera Liga in the late 1990s and then steered Celta to qualification for the Champions League in 2003. Last season he led Espanyol to triumph in last season’s King’s Cup.
