The Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) bid to delay its elections has been rejected by a court, almost two weeks after FIFA threatened to suspend the country as a result of government interference.

The Spanish government has ordered all national sporting federations that failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics to hold elections before the games commence in August.

Earlier this month FIFA warned Spain that their national team and its clubs risked being banned from international competition unless the federation pushed back its March 31 election date to autumn.

FIFA world governing body suspended Greece in 2006 because it said a national law interfered in the affairs of its federation.
