Tottenham’s new manager Juande Ramos has reportedly set his sights on signing Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas for next season, and the club is ready to pay a record €40m for the Spanish international.

“Juande wants Casillas,” headlined El Mundo today.

Despite struggling in the Premier League this season, Tottenham has the money, to fund the audacious bid.

A transfer fee of €40m would make Casillas the costliest keeper in football history, alongside Italy’s Gianluigi Buffon, who was sold from Parma to Juventus for the same amount in 2001.

Casillas, 26, who has made 72 appearances for his country, is under contract with the Madrid club until 2011.
