Deportivo de La Coruna enhanced their claims to be cup specialists when they secured the Spanish Supercup after a 4-0 aggregate win over champions Valencia.

A last-minute chipped goal from midfielder Victor earned Depor a 1-0 win away to Valencia to top off the 3-0 first leg win.

Valencia had to play most of the match with only 10 men after Roberto Ayala was sent off after only three minutes. The Argentine defender was red-carded for elbowing Deportivo striker Roy Makaay.

Makaay, midfield veteran Fran Gonzalez went close for Depor with Vicente twice and recalled striker Salva narrowly off target in response for Valencia.

Depor coach Javier Irureta said: “Ths was a victory for a lot of work behind the scenes in pre-season. We know the season will be long and hard but it’s better to set out with a win than a defeat.”
