St Gallen’s 11-3 deffeat to FC Wil at the weekend, proved to be the final straw for the club’s board of directors, who have decided to dispense with the services of coach Thomas Staub.

St Gallen, second from bottom in the league standings, suffered the humiliating defeat on Sunday and Staub, the former coach of the club’s under-21 side, will return to coaching the youth team.

‘The club is searching for a new coach,’ said a club spokesman.

‘He could possibly begin next week but we are not yet in the position to discuss names.’

Club president, Thomas Mueller, told Swiss newspaper Blick: ‘We do not want to rush the change.

‘In the current situation we cannot risk any mistakes.’

St Gallen are in the relegation zone with just four games to play before the mid-season break. The season continues next spring when the top eight side play in a reduced Nationalliga. ÿ
