Several clubs, including European champions Barcelona areinterested in signing Juventus defender Lilian Thuram if the Serie A club are relegated for their part in the match-fixing scandals engulfing Italian football.

Juventus expect to hear their fate in the next 24 hours, and it is widely anticipated that many of their players, including Thuram, will leave if they are demoted to Serie B or C.

According to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have made Thuram their number one target this summer.

His agent Oscar Damiani told Mundo Deportivo he had yet to decide his plans for next season.

Damiani said: “Thuram is on holiday in Guadeloupe. He is not thinking of the future yet.

“He will wait for the decision on Juventus’s future and then he will make a decision on his future in 15 or 20 days.

“In the event of Juve being relegated, it is possible he could go to England or Spain or Italy, but nothing has been decided.”

English club Tottenham are also reported to be keen on Thuram with Martin Jol prepared to pay £2m for the 34-year-old defender.
