Fernando Torres has failed to recover from his injury in time for Tuesday’s Champions League encounter against Lyon.

Torres missed the weekend loss at Sunderland with a muscle problem he picked up whilst on international duty, and Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed that the striker will not be fit to face the French outfit.

“Torres is still not ready. Hopefully he will be for the weekend, but not for this game,” said Benitez – who confirmed his skipper Gerrard has recovered from his groin problem.

“Steven is fit. He has been training so hopefully he will be available tomorrow.

“It is important as we have had some problems with injuries since the start of the season, so having Gerrard fit is a big boost for us.”
