Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has hailed the quality of football played in England, claiming the standard is better than in Spain.

The 23-year-old joined the Reds this summer and to date has scored 12 goals in 20 appearances for Rafa Benitez’s side.

Torres told Liverpool’s official website: “I would say football in England is better. It is more attractive than football in Spain, I would say, and certainly faster.

“It’s more physical. The progress of the game is slower and there are a lot more fouls in Spain. The football here is more dynamic and it is more fun for the team and the individuals.”

The Spanish international also paid tribute to the efforts of his team-mates.

“Strikers only really score goals because of the efforts of their team-mates,” he added.

“So far, I’ve been scoring pretty much a goal a game and I feel very lucky and happy with that. It’s in a large way down to the very good team-mates I have.

“At Liverpool, we always play with a high tempo and with a good rhythm, so that helps.”
