Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres could be set for a move to Arsenal this summer.

The Spaniard’s future has been the source of intense speculation since January, when Atletico admitted they would consider offers for their leading scorer.

Several leading European clubs have expressed an interest in the 22-year-old, with Newcastle reportedly seeing him as the ideal replacement for Alan Shearer who retires at the end of the season.

However, Arsenal’s Spanish forward Jose Antonio Reyes has revealed that he has discussed the possibility of Torres moving to Highbury with coach Arsene Wenger.

“Torres is already one of the best strikers in the world and when Arsene Wenger asked me about him I said he would be a great player for Arsenal,” said Reyes.

“He is very important for Atletico and Spain and would have no problems adapting to England.

“I would be delighted if he joins Arsenal.”
