Francesco Totti has signed a new five-year contract with Roma that will keep him at the club until 2010.

The Giallorossi have spent months locked in talks with their talismanic skipper, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Totti’s deal had been due to expire in 12 months’ time, but under the new deal there is also a commitment from Roma for Totti to take up a position on the club’s management staff when he retires from playing.

The club have endured a difficult season, with four coaches having been in charge of the team during the past 12 months.
