Italy playmaker Francesco Totti played his first match for two months today as he continues his recovery from a broken leg.

Totti played for Roma’s junior team in a friendly and is now hoping to play for the senior side within two weeks.

The news of his return will please Italy coach Marcello Lippi who has insisted that he will allow Totti as much time as he needs to recover from the injury.

With his recovery ahead of schedule, Totti looks set to be fit in time for Italy’s opening World Cup match with Ghana on 12 June.

Totti broke his left leg during Roma’s match at Empoli on 19 February.
