FIFA have banned Lazio from buying any more players after placing a transfer embargo on the club due to their desperate financial situation.

Football’s governing body acted because the club still owe money to several clubs from whom they have bought players in recent years.

Manchester United are owed money from the sale of Jaap Stam in 2001, whilst Spanish side Valencia say Lazio have not fully paid for Claudio Lopez and Gaizka Mendieta.

The embargo will remain until the club can fulfil its financial obligations. All of which means that an exodus of players may commence in the coming days.

Alessandro Nesta has been linked with a host of European clubs whilst Argentinian striker Hernan Crespo is believed to be interesting Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur.
