Trapattoni names Italy team for opener
Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni has broken with convention by naming his team to play Denmark, several days ahead of Monday’s EURO 2004 opener.
Trapatton has unveiled a 4-2-3-1 formation with Christian Vieri the lone striker, playing ahead of three playemakers in Mauro Camoranesi, Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero.
In goal , Gianluigi Buffon edges out Francesco Toldo, while the back four will comprise: Christian Panucci, Gianluca Zambrotta, Alessandro Nesta and Fabio Cannavaro.
Defensive midfield responsibilities lie with Simone Perrotta and Cristiano Zanetti.
There had been calls for Trapattoni to include Antonio Cassanoat the expense of Del Piero, but the coach has retained faith with the Juve forward.
