An injury to Diego Tristan soured last night’s charity match between a Galician XI and Real Madrid.

The game was organised to raise money to help combat the environmental damage caused by the Prestige oil tanker disaster that sank off the coast of Galicia last November.

Tristan, playing in a combined Celta de Vigo-Deportivo la Coruna team, limped off after 28 minutes with a suspected torn thigh muscle.

Tests later today will confirm the severity of the injury, although if Depor’s worst fears are confirmed, the Spanish international striker could spend up to a month on the sidelines, missing much of the remainder of the season.

Depor currently lie joint second in La Liga, three points adrift of leaders Real Madrid.
