Dutch first division Twente Enschede have revealed that they faced the prospect of bankruptcy after tax authorities demanded payment.

“The tax office has filed a request to have the FC Twente Foundation declared bankrupt. This will be handled by a local court on Wednesday,” Twente spokesman Edwin van Lenthe said.

Reports in the Dutch media claim that the cluowes €3.1 million to the tax authorities and and had accumulated debts of more than €14 million.
