The draw for the third round of the UEFA Cup has provided some intriguing ties with several of the fancied teams facing tough encounters.

The trio of Spanish clubs Real Betis, Malaga and Celta Vigo have been paired with Auxerre, Celtic Leeds United, while Italy’s lone representatives Lazio facing a potentiallly tricky tie against Sturm Graz.

Liverpool, who harboured ambitions of winning the Champions League, have been drawn to face Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem while England’s other representatives Fulham face German side Hertha Berlin.

Former winners Schalke, who won the competition in 1997, have been drawn against Wisla Krakow, conquerors of Parma, while Anderlecht, the 1993 winners, take on Bordeaux.
