Manchester United have agreed to sign the teenage China striker Dong Fangzhou from Chinese club Dalian Shide in a deal believed to be worth £3.5m, subject to appearances.

Dong was the most impressive of a group of promising Chinese players sent to England for trials in August.

“It is worth it,” said Dalian’s general manager Lin Lefeng.

“It’s good for the two sides and for Dong Fangzhou himself.”
