Manchester United have released goalkeeper Roy Carroll after four years at the club.

The 27-year-old Northern Ireland international is one of eight players released by United, with fellow keeper Ricardo also on his way out.

Carroll had regained his first-team place at United by the end of the season and played in the FA Cup final ahead of rival American Tim Howard.

Carroll made 70 appearances for United and has 16 caps for Northern Ireland. Earlier this season his agent opened negotiations with United over a new deal but talks stalled when he demanded assurances from United that they did not intend to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer.
