Uruguay manager Jorge Fossati called up the first 9 of his squad to face Argentina in the next World Cup qualifier on the 9th October.

The 9, from Uruguayan based teams, include former Deportivo La Coruna forward Sebastian Abreu, nicknamed “el loco” (the crazy one), who will almost certainly make a
return to the national team due to the enforced absences of star strikers Alvaro Recoba (Internazionale) and Carlos Bueno (Peñarol), both through suspension. However, they will both be back for the following game against Bolivia in La Paz.

The remaining Uruguayan based players selected are: Gonzalo Castro, Carlos Valdez, Federico Raris, Sebastián Viera (Nacional); Fabián Estoyanoff, Alejandro Lago (Fénix); Aldo Giménez (Liverpool) y Jorge Martínez (Wanderers).

Fossati was also happy to hear the news regarding his Monaco forward, Javier
Chevantón, who is recovering well from a knee sprain.

The whole squad will travel to Argentina in two weeks time, for October 9 fixture.
