Utrecht defender David di Tommaso died in his sleep on Monday night, the Dutch first division club said on Tuesday.

According to media reports, the 26-year-old French defender suffered a heart attack.

Di Tommaso began his career at Monaco and later played for French second division Sedan.

He joined Utrecht in July 2004, and played 31 times last season and had appeared in 13 matches so far this season.
