Primera Division strugglers Real Valladolid have sacked coach Onesimo.

Valladolid have lost 2-0 to Villarreal and 3-0 to relegation rivals Xerez in their past two games to slip seven points adrift of safety with eight games to go.

Onesimo replaced Jose Luis Mendilibar at the start of February, but has been unable to guide them towards safety, winning just one game since taking over.

A statement on the club’s official website this evening read: “If the results of the team cost Jose Luis Mendilibar his job in charge of Real Valladolid last February 1, only two months later the bad results in the following 10 games (six points from a possible 30) have seen history repeat itself with his replacement Onesimo.

“The management board has taken the decision to relieve the coach of his responsibility at the head of the first team.”

The statement added the club would name a successor soon, hopefully in time for him to take charge of the team in Saturday’s clash at fellow strugglers Tenerife.

Onesimo’s assistant Jorge Alonso will for the time being take charge of training, along with Julio Hernando.
