Barcelona’s Mark van Bommel will be out of action for a month after injuring his ankle while on international duty with Holland.

The former PSV Eindhoven midfielder, who has recently regained his place in Frank Rijkaard’s starting eleven, suffered the inujury after clashing with Middlesbrough’s George Boateng during training.

“He has a grade two injury to the external lateral ligament in his ankle,” stated Barca doctor Lluis Til.

“As the ankle is very swollen we have advised him to postpone the journey (back to Barcelona) for between 24 and 48 hours.

“He will spend some time with the ankle tightly bandaged and will then begin a physio programme until it is fully recovered.”
