Dutch coach Louis van Gaal has reached agreement Barcelona officials to terminate his contract with the Catalan club.
“After reflecting on the recent performances of the club and speaking with (Barcelona) president Joan Gaspart we have decided that it is in the best interests of the club that we go our separate ways,” van Gaal told reporters.
The club’sdirectors decided late on Monday to negotiate a financial settlement with van Gaal that would facilitate his deaprture from the club. Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo left the club just three pointsoff the relegation zone and in danger of finishing in their worst-ever league position.
Former Atlletico Madrid boss Radomir Antic or Carles Rexach, who coached Barcelona last season and holds the post of the club’s sporting director, are favourites to take over from van Gaal, until the end of the season. .
