Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal has confirmed that the injury Arjen Robben picked up in Wednesday’s goalless Champions League draw with Juventus is serious.

The Dutch winger limped off just before half time in the Group A clash and Van Gaal suspects he may be out for several months.

”I think that he has a serious injury,” said Van Gaal. ”A diagnosis will be given today, but if a player tells me that it is serious, then I always believe that it is serious.”

Robben will undergo tests in Munich, with the biggest fears being torn cruciate ligaments or meniscus damage.

Van Gaal was, though, impressed with his side’s performance against the Italian outfit.

”I think that we have not played a single game this season as well as the first half,” said the Dutchman. ”We had plenty of gilt-edged chances, but did not score. That is a shame, but if we keep playing like this, then it is only going to be a matter of time.”
