Barcelona coach Louis Vann Gaal admitted he was delighted with his side’s 3-2 win in their Champions League opener with Club Brugge.

“I’m very happy with the result. We played well,” said Van Gaal. “We dominated and created many chances and the public have enjoyed the game.”

“I think we have to talk about the first 75 minutes when Barcelona were superior”.

Javier Saviola, scorer of Barcelona’s third goal, a wonderful individual effort, was upbeat about his side”s performance. “We gave a good account of ourselves because we couldn’t have started better,” said Saviola.

“We have to keep the ball and not lose control during matches. I think my goal was beautiful. To score in the Champions League makes you feel better,” the diminutive Argentinian added.

Brugge coach Trond Sollied was honest enoough to admit that his team were outclassed for large periods. .

“Brugge lost to a better team, we saw that Barcelona are a class higher in a technical sense,” he said.

“Maybe we showed too much respect, we gave easy goals away and we were too passive.We didn’t have enough gas to put Barcelona under pressure, even when it was 3-2.”

“After our second goal, they got nervous andwe could have equalised,” he added. “But I think we must be satisfied with scoring two goals at the Camp Nou. The result is okay for a first game, especially against such a big club. We can learn a lot from this game.”
