Juan Sebastian Veron has been ruled out of Manchester United’s Champions League tie with Real Madrid in the Bernabeu.

The Argentinian has been missing for several weeks after damaging knee-ligaments against Leeds.

The only other playier who did not travel to Spain was was Phil Neville, who is suspended after picking up his third booking of the competition in the 2-0 defeat by Deportivo La Coruna.

David Beckham and Nicky Butt, both of whom were rested for Saturday’s 4-0 win over Liverpool, look set for a recall.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid boss Vicente del Bosque is expectedto be able to field a full-strength side for the eagerly-awaited tie.

He welcomes back the French pair of Zinedine Zidane and Claude Makelele after both missed Saturday’s 3-1 victory over bottom club Rayo Vallecano.

Ivan Helguera is also expected to return to partner club captain Fernando Hierro in the centre of the defence.
