Inter defender Fabio Cannavaro has welcomed the speculation linking Chelsea’s Argentinian midfielder, Juan Sebastian Veron, with a move to the San Siro.

“Veron is a great player and I’ve always said that great players are welcome here,” said the Italian international defender.

“Veron is a player that can make the difference on the field and he is an exceptional person.

“When Inter are associated with these types of individuals then it means that this club is going in the right direction.”

The player’s agent denied talks between the two clubs had taken place but the player, who has failed to impress in three seasons in England with Manchester United and latterly Chelsea, is expected to return to Italy in the summer.
