Osvaldo Ardiles has been saved from almost certain dismissal as coach of Racing after a 3-0 win over Nueva Chicago.

Ardiles returned home to Buenos Aires only in august to take up his first coaching role back in Argentina since he left, as a player, for Tottenham afer the 1978 World Cup win.

Managerial appointments in England, Japan and Croatia preceded his Argentine return but poor results and controversial team selections had prompted a section of Racing’s fans to call for the reappointment in his place of former boss Reinaldo Merlo.

Nueva Chicago,ÿ ironically, were playing their first game since another former Argentina midfielder, Nestor Gorosito, was appointed as their new coach.
