France midfielder Patrick Viera looks certain to miss this summers Confederation’s Cup tournament due to a persistent knee injury.

The tournament is taking place in Viera’s homeland, but playing without taking a long break fromfootball in the past two years has taken its toll on the Arsenal captain.

“I will have to terminate the season in the summer because I am pushing my luck a little bit,” Viera told a French newspaper.

“My knee has become irritating, from a medical point of view it won’t be feasible to play in the Confederation’s Cup.”

Viera’s decision to take the summer off means it will prolongthe remainder of his domestic season for Arsenal. He looks certain to play against Manchester United tonight despite picking up an injury in Arsenal’s FA Cup game at the weekend.
