Former captain Patrick Vieira has warned Arsenal that they risk losing Thierry Henry unless they bring some new faces into the club.

“I know he’s talking to the club about a new contract,” Vieira told BBC Five Live.

“But I think when you want to keep your best players you have to bring in some new ones.

“To do well in Europe you need a good team. A few years ago at Arsenal we had a really good team but we didn’t play well enough to win a European trophy.”

Vieira quit Arsenal during the summer after almost nine years at Highbury, moving to Juventus in a £13.7m deal.

When he left he admitted Vieira admitted he had a better chance of lifting the Champions League at Juventus.

“You always want to go somewhere you can win what you didn’t last year,” Vieira added.

There has been speculation that Henry might follow suit and quit Arsenal, with Barcelona reportededly keen on acquiring his services.
